All Mice Are Not Created Equally !
Just as each of our hands are not the same as another, neither should our mouse.
- Discomfort from using a mouse is usually due to wrist compression or wrist deviation ( moving the wrist side-to side).
- Choose a mouse that your whole hand can sit on and your wrist does not lean on the desk or choose a vertical mouse which eliminates wrist compression by design.
- Your shoulder is the joint used to moves your mouse. Think of a line from your middle finger up your forearm and keep that line straight when moving the mouse.
We all use our hands in unique ways.
Choose a mouse which will help you:
- Avoid resting your wrist or forearm on work surfaces
- Avoid moving your hand side-to-side
Most of the mice shown below are right or left handed. It is wise to keep a standard mouse on hand so that you can periodically alternate the use of the right and left hand when mousing.
Full Size Mouse
Choosing a larger then standard mouse allows your whole hand to sit on the mouse and reduces the tendency to compress your wrist on the work surface. Remember the driver of the mouse is your shoulder. Do not move your hand side to side- keep it straight!
Vertical and Semi Vertical Mice
A vertical or semi- virtual mouse puts your hand at an angle. This design engineers out the risk of wrist compression. You do still need to remember that the shoulder is the driver for your mouse.
